The Darlington track teams appear to have this sweeping thing down to a science.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers came away with the team crowns at the Floyd County Invitational on Tuesday at Pepperell, making the third meet the Darlington teams have swept since the beginning of last month.

“I felt like the kids performed pretty well,” said Darlington head coach Kevin Hunt. “We’ve had several meets bunched up together in the past couple weeks, and some of the kids are kind of tired. But they are still going hard.”

Nigel Matthews and Jesse Baker each won multiple events for the Tigers, and Paige Banks won two titles for the Lady Tigers.

Matthews won the triple jump and long jump, while Baker won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Banks earned first in the 100 and 200 meter sprints. (Finishing times for the events weren’t available at press time Tuesday night, but can be found in Thursday’s print edition of the RN-T.)

Darlington girls finished with 178 points and the boys totaled 171. Pepperell’s boys and girls both finished second (with each Pepperell team scoring 125 points).

Rome’s teams finished third in both the boys and girls’ team standings. The Rome boys compiled 121 points, and the Rome girls had 115.
