With Pepperell trailing 45-44, Lovingood drilled a 3-pointer from the corner to put the Dragons on top with 26 seconds left. After Darlington missed a shot on its next possession, Pepperell’s Kyle Henderson sealed the win for the Dragons with a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining.
Lovingood finished with 27 points for Pepperell (3-4), including scoring 10 of the Dragons’ 12 points in the fourth quarter. Henderson added eight points for Pepperell.
Jack Kelly scored a team-high 13 for Darlington (1-6), and Tylon Garrett and Will Jones added 11 each.
Pepperell enjoyed a seemingly commanding 44-36 lead with 2:02 left in the fourth quarter. But Darlington wasn’t done.
Playing frantic defense, the Tigers forced three straight turnovers during a wild 9-0 run to take a sudden 45-44 lead. Kelly capped the surge with a 3-pointer from the wing with 49 seconds left.
Lovingood, however, answered with his game-winning 3 on Pepperell’s next possession.
