Calhoun (2-2) earned the victory despite a sensational performance by Woodland’s Alexis Katt, who finished with a game-high 29 points.
“I think the girls wanted to come out tonight and get their sour taste out of their mouths after losing (to Rome in the opening round),” said Calhoun coach Jerry Preutt. “And tonight, we made some big plays down the stretch.”
Calhoun, which trailed 25-23 at the half, took its first lead of the third quarter, 35-34, on Callie Pruett’s 3-pointer with 22 seconds remaining in the period.
The Lady Jackets then built a four-point edge midway through the fourth quarter, but Woodland tied it at 42-42 on a jumper by Katt with 1:02 to play.
Poole then put Calhoun back on top by hitting the back end of a two-shot foul with 22 seconds left. Woodland had a chance to win on the game’s final possession, but Katt’s 15-foot runner was barely off the mark.
