Armuchee and Calhoun will both be looking to clinch the subregion crowns in the South and North, respectively, as the No. 1-ranked Jackets are hosting Adairsville, and the Indians are hosting Rockmart.
If Calhoun and Armuchee each win, the two teams would meet next week in the Region 7-AA game.
However, if either Armuchee or Calhoun lose, it would create a two-way — or perhaps even a three-way — deadlock for the top spot in the subregion. In that scenario, a tie-breaker would be needed to determine who gains a spot in the region championship game.
Although there remains some confusion as to which tie-breaking format is being implemented, most coaches believe that the team with the best record against region crossover opponents would be awarded the subregion title in 7-AA.
Meanwhile, in Region 6-A, the Darlington Tigers are looking to take another step toward winning the region crown outright. The Tigers, who are unbeaten in 6-A, are hosting Gordon Lee on Friday.
Trion, which clinched a playoff berth last week, will seek to improve its postseason seeding by upsetting Bremen on the road.
In Region 6-AAA, the Cedartown Bulldogs have been eliminated from playoff contention, but the ’Dogs will still have plenty of motivation when they head to Carrollton to play their region rivals.
Several other local teams have also been knocked out of the playoff picture — including Coosa, Model, Sonoraville, Gordon Central and Rome High — but will be looking to finish strong over the final two weeks of the season.
