Now the No. 2-ranked Lady Jackets are looking to parlay that success into their second straight 7-AA tournament championship.
Calhoun will be the top seed at this year’s tourney, which begins Saturday at Hamilton Crossing in Adairsville.
The double-elimination event continues through Thursday, with the top four finishers earning automatic berths to the state sectionals.
Six games are on the schedule for Saturday.
At 3 p.m., ninth-seeded Pepperell faces fourth-seeded Rockmart, and third-seeded Armuchee faces the No. 10 seed.
At 5 p.m. on Saturday, sixth-seeded Sonoraville meets seventh-seeded Adairsville, and fifth-seeded Dade County plays eighth-seeded Gordon Central.
The opening-round winners will then square off at 7 p.m, while the losing teams will fall into the loser’s bracket and will play on Monday.
The tourney’s top two seeds — Calhoun and Coosa — will get into tourney play on Monday.
The Region 6-A tournament, held at Alto Park, begins Monday.
Trion will be the No. 2 seed, and Darlington will be the No. 7.

SOFTBALL
Trion 3, Bremen 1
Trion earned the No. 2 seed in next week’s 6-A region tournament with a win against visiting Bremen.
The win put the Lady Bulldogs in a tie with Excel. The tiebreaker came down to number of runs allowed and Trion beat out Excel, which was given the No. 3 spot.
At the plate for the Lady Bulldogs, Morgan Blanchard and Lauren Samples were 1-for-3 with two RBIs each, and Alex James, Kristan Devier and Carrie Ann Caron each hit twice.
Alexa Rush earned the win for Trion (15-12, 8-4), pitching seven innings, allowing two hits and striking out five.
Bremen is the No. 4 seed, Bowdon No. 5, Mt. Zion No. 6 and Darlington, No. 7.
Trion plays Darlington on Monday at 4 p.m. in the 6-A region tournament.
CROSS COUNTRY
Coosa boys, Model girls win
Coosa’s boys and Model’s girls won a cross country meet held at New Echota Park.
For the boys, Calhoun finished in second place and Model took third.
Hylton Hamilton was Coosa’s top runner with a time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds. J.B. Box was the overall winner with a time of 17:36 and Model’s best runner was Jeremy Akins, who finished in 20:18.
Model’s Allison Holliday was second overall, but the fastest for her team with a time of 24:01.
Milli Galvin, of third-place Calhoun, was the overall winner with a time of 23:24. Second-place Coosa was led by Kristen Bortz who finished in 26:39.
