Gordon Central beats Trion 24-14.
Gordon Central held off a determined Trion team Friday night and took a 24-14 win to go to 3-0 on the season.

Up by three with 1:08 to go in the game, Dre Prather sneaked the ball in from the one and Miguel Martinez kicked the extra point to put the Warriors up by 10.

After stopping the Bulldogs on the opening drive of the second half, the Warriors took over on their own 30.

Prather moved them down the field quickly, throwing a 50-yard strike to Keidric Johnson at the Bulldog 20. Six plays later, facing a second and goal at the 6, Prather found Nathan Duke in the end zone. Martinez was good again, and the Warriors led 17-7 with 5:15 left in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs answered after Kencade Sumner carried for 54 yards to put the Bulldogs at the Warrior 12. A pass interference call gave Trion a first and goal at the three, and Sumner carried over from the one.

The kick was good, and Trion had pulled to within three, 17-14, with 54 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Warrior defense stood tall when it needed to and kept Trion bottled up in their own territory as the final seconds ticked off the clock at Ratner Stadium.

A jubilant homecoming crowd celebrated the Warriors' first home victory in almost two years.

A number of big penalties kept the Trion hopes alive in the second half. Trion falls to 0-3.

First half recap

The Warriors spotted visiting Trion seven second-quarter points but came back to score 10 unanswered points in the final two and a half minutes of the half to take a 10-7 halftime lead.

Martinez kicked a 35-yard field goal with 4 seconds left in the half, capping an amazing turnaround after Trion had taken a one-touchdown lead.

After a scoreless first quarter, Trion's Ryan Wilson drew first blood midway through the second quarter scoring from the 1-yard line.

The Bulldogs took advantage of a low snap on a Gordon Central punt, recovering the ball on the Warriors' 22. Facing a fourth and four on the 15, quarterback Daniel Prince drew the Warriors offsides, giving the Bulldogs a first and goal at the 10.

On fourth down at the 1, Prince handed off to Wilson, who cracked over for the score with 7:56 left in the half. The kick was good, and the Bulldogs led 7-0.

Soon after, Central was in business after recovering a Trion fumble on the Bulldogs 30.

Sophomore quarterback Prather reeled off an 18-yard gain to the 12. He was sacked on the next play but came back with a 23-yard touchdown strike to Justin Patterson.

Martinez's kick was good as Gordon Central tied up the score, 7-7, with 2:36 left in the half.
