With their emotions ranging from agitated to disappointed, the Armuchee softball team spent Tuesday afternoon in the covered batting cages behind their home field.

It wasn’t a particularly thrilling activity for the Lady Indians, who were scheduled to host Dade County in a key 7-AA contest, but saw the contest postponed due to thundershowers. It will be made up next Wednesday at Armuchee.

“We really needed to play a game today,” said Armuchee head coach Jeremy Dunagan, who seemed to share his players’ feelings on the rainout. “We haven’t been playing very well in the past week, so we were hoping today’s game would give us a chance to work on some things.”

Dunagan’s Lady Indians weren’t the only ones who were bummed out by the bad weather.

In Rockmart, the Lady Jackets were scheduled to host Pepperell in a much-anticipated contest between the Region 7-AA South co-leaders.

But heavy rain pounded the Rockmart field much of the afternoon, and the contest was called off around 2:30 p.m. — three hours before the first pitch was scheduled to be thrown.

The game will be played next Wednesday at Rockmart at 5 p.m. The winning team will likely have the inside track toward the No. 1 seed for the region tournament.

Tuesday’s rainy weather also caused the postponement of the City-County Championship cross country meet at Ridge Ferry Park.

The event — one of the biggest of the year — has been rescheduled for today at the same site.
